Our names are Mika and Adam and we are a couple that decided to take the leap and teach English in China. We were introduced to MGT while still in South Africa, Somnus and Hannah guided us the whole way on which documents we needed as well as helping us to secure an apartment so that we could move into one as soon as we landed in Shenzhen. While in South Africa we were also helped on interview prep and both managed to secure a job at the same school with the same working hours.

We landed during Chinese New Year which was a difficult time as majority of everything was closed (originally we were meant to be in quarantine, but that was a lifted a few weeks before we were due to fly out.)

As soon as Chinese New Year was over, we had the pleasure of meeting Somnus, and  we started checking things off our to-do list.

We first went to the Metro system and Somnus helped us set up our metro cards and then proceeded to take us for 1st metro ride, he explained how the lines/ connecting stations worked.

He then helped us set up our phones with our new Chinese SIM cards. As well as helping us download and set up all of the necessary apps. Somnus then proceed to show us exactly what each app does. More so he has helped us in day to day living. Alipay was set up but due to the fact that we didn’t have a local bank account at the time, he suggested that we draw some money from our international bank card and give him the cash, Somnus then transferred money from his Alipay to ours. This has been invaluable as everything runs off of the app when needing to pay for things.

All in all Somnus has been an extraordinary help in setting us up in Shenzhen, even though we are now set up with jobs etc he has still made himself available to us if we need help with anything.

As for the city itself, we have both come to love how clean, safe and efficient the city is. After school we go for walks and get home long after dark without a worry about crime at all. The metro has been a game changer for getting around and is fast, inexpensive and efficient.

Our apartment is very close to our school as well as major shopping centers and Oh Bay which is an amazing promenade that you can walk along.

All in all I would highly recommend working with Somnus and MGT Service and moving to Shenzhen for work.
