Last weekend, TLD hosted an unforgettable cultural gathering in Shenzhen with eight of our expat teachers—including two who journeyed from Huizhou! From crafting traditional lacquer fans to snack debates and hilarious games, the event highlighted the vibrant community we’ve built with educators who’ve chosen to renew their contracts and embrace life in China. Here’s a glimpse of the fun!

Activity 1: DIY Lacquer Fan Workshop

Participants will dive into the art of crafting qishan (Chinese lacquer fans), a trending traditional craft that blends creativity with cultural heritage. Our teachers will experiment with vibrant pigments and swirling techniques to design unique keepsakes. Expect laughter, playful "oops" moments, and proud displays of their handmade masterpieces!

Activity 2: Chinese Snack Tasting & Review

Next up: a lighthearted snack showdown! We’ve prepared a mix of beloved and quirky Chinese treats—from spicy latiao to sweet haw flakes—and our teachers will rate their favorites. Anticipate hilarious reactions, debates over "acquired tastes," and maybe even a new snack obsession or two!

The teachers also ranked the Top 1 snacks in their minds according to their own taste preferences.
